I started watching the President's address last night with an open
mind. Anyone who knows me will tell you I am an eternal optimist. Hope
springs eternal is one of my favorite sayings. But, when all was said
and done last night I was left feeling like the American people were
still being let down. It was still just more of the same.
We
have heard the same story (I inherited this recession) over and over
again. I am still confused on this and correct me if I am wrong. Didn't
Obama serve in the Senate during the last administration? Last time I
checked he did, he is just as responsible as the rest of them. Quit the
"blame game" and take the responsibility for your part.
This is my analysis of the health care part of the speech.
I liked the part about:
making it illegal to exclude
preexisting conditions
you can not be canceled if you get sick
limiting out of pocket expenses
paying for wellness care
I just have a few follow up questions.
First, are
insurance companies going to be
reimbursed the difference in how much more they will be paying out vs how much they take in or will the
Government get into the reinsurance business?
Second, If an insured stops paying their premium can the insurance company cancel them at that time?
Last, are the insurance companies going to be able to set their own rates?
The Insurance exchange -- Why can't we just allow individuals to band together in groups (schools,
Church's, organizations) and
collectively purchase their own coverage, like employers do now. We Do Not need a public/
government plan that would kill private plans.
Tax Credits -- YES YES YES...
I
understand why we are required by "State law" to have Auto Liability
Insurance. It is there to protect the other person if you cause injury
and/or property damage to them or their property. You are Not required
to carry coverage on your damage to your vehicle. That is what health
coverage is like. It should never be illegal for me to not have health
coverage as stupid as it seems.
Now for these so called lies and
misinformation. Here is what is in the House Bill HR3200.
Death panels, of course they don't call them that.
Page 425, mandates that senior have end of life
discussions at least every 5 years.
Page 427, program that mandates end of life treatments.
Page 430,
Advanced Care Planing can include end of life order from the
Government (
i.e. they will not pay for life sustaining treatments)
Isn't that considered rationing, sounds like the potential to turn into a "death panels" as well.
Pages 525 to 620, basic
government take over of all nursing homes and care facilities.
The illegal issue, its in there too
Page 50 "all non-us citizens" will be able to get free health care.
Page 170 all "non-resident
aliens" are exempt from paying taxes.
How
is this going to keep the health care cost down? Sounds like more of an
invitation to me. Come to America, no taxes and free health care, keep
your allegiance to your motherland.
They just don't come out and say that they are paying for abortions but
Page 770, Section 1714
government
mandates eligibility for "State Family Planning Services" does Plan
Parenthood ring a bell.. What do you think they are going to pay for.
Page 16, Sec 102 protecting the choice to keep current coverage
keep your current coverage if you like it, you will be grandfathered in. If there are any changes in your policy (
whether you or the company change it) you will lose your plan and have to go to the Exchange.
Why can we not do the following to start with before we jump to the
Socialistic band wagon.
First, TORT REFORM: if you file a law suite and lose because it was
frivolous you and your lawyer have to pay the
defendants
attorney fees and court costs. This would get rid of all the bogus
suites. You might be hard pressed to find an attorney to agree with
this one.
Second, State can change their insurance law to allow
individuals to buy coverage across state lines. Imagine being able to
choose from hundreds of insurance companies instead of just a few. This
would force
competition and improved plans just to keep insureds and would still be in the free market.
Last, America is the wealthiest and most generous country in the world. Why don't we increase the tax deductions for charitable
contributions
to health related charities? It would be a win - win situation. Just
think of how much it would help charity hospitals like St. Jude and
LeBonoure. Instead of charging insurance companies fees that would only end up being charged to policy holders as a back door tax.
My
Biggest question to President Obama: If this health reform is not going
to take effect till 2013, why do we need to rush it through without
getting it right.
REMEMBER THIS: You Can Sue an Insurance Company, YOU CAN NOT SUE THE
GOVERNMENT.
